Albano Anonyuo
Co-Chair, PRF
A health and human rights advocate and activist, specifically a sex work decriminalization advocate and activist who has for the past 23 years this year 2024 and still counting has been championing initiatives towards the struggle for the decriminalization of sex work in Nigeria and have also made conscientious and sustained effort to ensure that the right to unfettered access to health and unviolated human rights of sex workers struggle is unhampered.
Alban, today is the foremost and frontrunner advocate and activist on issues and matters bothering on sex work and sex workers in Nigeria.
Some of his organization’s remarkable concepts were the branding of 2 (two) vehicles to launch what was tagged ‘Mobile Intervention’ which took services and commodities to sex workers and their communities. He also initiated and launched the first-ever nighttime interventions in Abuja and environs to carry out HIV sensitization and enlightenment at hotspots, brothels, night clubs, popular hangouts, etc.
He has won many awards for his never-say-die stance, including his most cherished, the HEROES award received from The US President’s Emergency Program For AIDS Relief (PEPfAR).
As part of the tools to advance this struggle, he birthed the concept and succeeded in forming, inaugurating and registering Precious Red diamond Welfare Organization (PREDIWOR) the first network for sex workers in Nigeria.
He is a repository of information on issues around sex work and sex workers in Nigeria and have recently launched and personally anchors a podcast titled “Voices Unchained” which tends to delve into the lives and experiences of Key Populations (KPs) which includes Sex Workers, LGBTQ+ individuals and people who inject and/or use drugs in order to hear, discuss and amplify the untold stories. This podcast is for these voices to be heard, provide a space for the clarification of myths and misconceptions; discuss contentious issues, challenge stigmatizing narratives, stereotypes and promote empathy, understand and empower through raw, unfiltered intimate conversations and storytelling.
